WOMEN’S
MINISTRY
On
March 14th, we commemorated Covenant Women’s
Sunday with a morning of role reversals. The ladies served as ushers
and the guys prepared and served lunch. Rose Cornelius was our guest speaker. As
a result of her inspiration and the generosity of the people of our church, $455
was collected for missions. These funds will be sent to the Covenant Department
of World Mission to be forwarded to the Congo. Funds will be used to pay the $50
state exam fee required for a high school diploma for girls.
Women’s
Ministries are vital to our church and to advancing God’s kingdom. Would you
like to know more about your role and how, as a woman, there are ways which you
surpass men in bringing people to Jesus? Join us for a salad supper and video on
Monday, May 10th at 6:30 PM in the Christian Center for answers. The video is a
live seminar done by Ruth Hill, Executive Director of Covenant Women’s
Ministries, which was taped. This is an inspiring video in which Ruth explains
important aspects of the need for and impact of women’s ministries. We plan to
invite the ladies from the Greenwood and New Covenant churches. Bring a salad
and come prepared to enjoy an evening of fellowship and inspiration. Childcare
will be provided.

Psalm 73:28 “But
it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that
I may declare all thy works.”
This
past year, God inspired a group of ladies to draw near to him to organize the
women’s ministries in our church. As we prayed and planned, we believed that
God would show us where He was at work so that we could join him. We have been
blessed as we pursued the goal of organization to be more effective in ministry
to women. Our vision statement “advancing
God’s kingdom through women” expresses why we exist. Our mission
statement explains what we want to accomplish. “Our
mission is to equip women to grow, serve, and reach out with the gospel of Jesus
Christ.” Based on our vision
and mission statements, we identified priorities for ministry and associated
activities.
-
Equipping
women to grow in order to see God’s kingdom advance.
Activities associated with this ministry priority are Bible study,
retreats, prayer ministry, and Christian formation. The “grow” committee
leader is Irene Forsman. Committee members, so far, are Tonya Sterling, Kathy
McGrew, and Lori Shackelford.
-
Equipping
women to serve in order to see God’s
kingdom advance. Activities are workshops & training, compassion ministry,
and fundraising. The “service”
committee leader is Karen Adams. Members, so far, are Jennifer Salac, Renee
Forsman, Kathy Pope, and Linn Forsman.
-
Equipping
women to reach out with the gospel.
Activities include evangelism, missions, classes in faith sharing, and contact with
visitors. The “reach out” committee leader is Sherry Hinote. Members, so
far, are Lisa Spencer, Rose Doubrava, Robbin Beacham, and Ann Nitteberg.
With
the diverse activities associated with each committee, there is a place for
everyone on a committee. The committee that utilizes your spiritual gift will be
the most comfortable for you. God has gifted each of us with special talents and
interests. When we use our spiritual gifts in a natural way, God is glorified
and we are blessed. (Not stressed)
The
Organizational structure consists of a leadership team. Susan Langley and
Marilyn Brown are coordinator/leaders. Barbara Langley is secretary and Robbin
Beacham is treasurer. Committee leaders, Karen, Irene, and Sherry, are on the
leadership team. We appreciate your input and participation. If you have
specific areas of interest or special needs, please
let us know.
Please
be in prayer for the women of our church and community. God is at work in our
lives and we want to be ready to respond.
